Pre-Made Logos: Diamond Hearts

My first pre-made logo design pkg project has been dragging along behind other projects for some time. This past week, I was inspired for some reason and pushed myself, working all day for several days to refine the first logo and write up the pkg.

I won't have to prepare the marketing content and documents again, since they will serve as templates for new logo designs. That first preparation is the most time-consuming one.

The logos that I design appeal more to handmades sellers, makers, designers, sole proprietors and other creatives. You'll see me list more detailed, artsy designs rather than the simplified, geometric designs used by companies and corporations.

I like using artwork for logo design, rather than vector work, like what I used for this Diamond Hearts logo. Vector design is fun too, so you may see them popping up in my logo shop every now and then.

I never re-sell a logo that a customer buys from me. While I may take some elements from a logo and re-work them into new designs, I never re-sell any sold designs. Any new designs will not be confused with the design from which I may have taken elements. My sold logos are exclusively owned by and identifiable with purchasers.

While I take steps to protect my images, it is important to note that I am not responsible for the possible digital theft and reuse of my logos, before or after sale.

It is the responsibility of the brand owner to become educated about protecting his/her logo and brand name. My design services do not include registering brand names or trademarking logos or providing legal business advice.

How To Create Easy Altered Art Book Pages

I love this altered art book pages tute by Aldridge Crafts & Gifts, a craft retailer out of Norfolk, United Kingdom. I particularly like how the die cuts are used to accent the pages. I have a supply of die cuts from other projects and my testing of new dies.

Notice how the spray inks stain the pages with colors that are too dark and an opaque coverage with at first does not allow the underlying work to show through? Well, they usually dry lighter in tint. Some of it can also be mopped up with a tissue, making the end result even lighter if needed.

I also like the technique of adhering elements that extend beyond the edges on the pages  and snipping the extra off. This technique gives the pages such a neat, finished appearance.

The process of altered art is really not as confusing and intimidating as it looks. It's just step by step, starting with laying down a surface for you work, either using paint or paper. You begin to add elements and accents as you see fit.

There is no perfect way to create it. It's what you feel should be added as you work along. The artwork will also guide you. Art creates itself. It also helps that you can work on it over a period of days or weeks. Do a little and come back to it later. Your nerves will have rested and you'll have a fresh perspective with new ideas on how to proceed.

For an old book, the flatter the additions to the pages, the better. There are so many pages and the book needs to close. With a handmade book, you can add as many or as few pages as you want, so your pages can have thicker elements.

This video is a perfect example of how easy it is to create, in a few, non-intimidating steps, altered artwork that is stunning! Give it a try. In the end, you'll be surprised that you did it!

Have a Happy Creative Weekend!

Easy Gel Press Storage

I like Carolyn Dube's personality and spirit of teaching. She's a fun person. Here she talks about the ways to store gel presses based on her experiences. As she says, the info is often conflicting and I'm glad I found her explanations. I find her suggestions to be sensible and very easy to understand.

Free Marketing With Facebook Hashtags

If you are using Facebook and not using #hashtags or #hashtag strategy in your products posts, you are losing out on free marketing. Facebook Help shares info and guidelines about hashtags:

Hashtags turn topics and phrases into clickable links in your posts on your personal timeline, Page or groups. This helps people find posts about topics they’re interested in.

I'm getting better at using them in every post. I and some of my creative friends have made sales because Facebook visitors found us and we weren't even using Facebook Ads.

How Do I Use Hashtags On Facebook?
