Double-Embossing Technique On Star Of Jesus Cards

Ran across these lovely, Star of Jesus cards in my Gelatin Printing Enthusiasts Facebook group. I wondered if they were embossed but thought the stars looked thicker than expected. Did the crafter use some type of ultra or super thick embossing powder or enamel?

It turns out that crafter, Michelle Moussan, used the easy double-embossing technique. She explains below:

I die cut the star and then did the double embossing. After I melt the first layer of embossing powder, I ink it again with embossing ink and add a second layer of embossing powder. I then added small bits of highly reflective glitter. Like I said just a bit so it wouldn’t be overwhelming just catch the light a little.

The double-embossed effect can work with what we have, rather than buying another product, such as ultra thick embossing powder. Just a few minutes more are needed to get the look. Designs can even be embossed a third time.

It would seem that generally, the thicker the embossing will be, the less intricate the design will need to be. Heavy embossing may over fill detailed areas.

Effective Ebook Cover Design

Need inspiration for your ebook cover? Payhip owner Abs Farah has written a blog post on effective ebook cover design. There are some excellent examples to motivate you to think more creatively about the first page that your potential customers will see. It's the cover but it is really the first page that helps lead readers to the other pages inside.

My favs are The Future of Data, for its simply-important design, The Burger Book, for strikingly-crisp photography, Pay Me Or Else, for its ransom note journaling design, which is a technique that I use in altered art, and Attention-Driven Design, for that smart graphic with the arrow pointing the eye in a persuasive direction.

Ebook cover design is no less important than paperback and hardback cover design. This post will help you to focus on how the design, whether simple or complex, should cleverly and effectively illustrate your manuscript.

Be Flexible And Adjust For Success

Press on in the thing that you love to do.

If you love it, you won't stop.

If you don't love it, change it.

Be flexible and adjust to what your heart is telling you.

Don't lose time, effort and money on something that you don't love.

Success comes to those creatives who are determined and flexible.

Failures are teaching grounds.

Failures are clues about changes to make.

Failures are tools to use to our advantage.

Failures are vital and critical keys to success.

Stay awake!

Pay attention!

HAPPY CREATING!

Happy Saturday & Signature Colors

My signature colors are green and pink, lime and purple, fuchsia and chartreuse. You get it. Any combo of the tones of yellow-green and purple-pink sends my spirits soaring. I only like the clear crispness of tones (jewel tones), not shades so much and rarely ever tints (pastels). I'm a winter so that figures.

Identifying and using signature colors can help establish your brand among customers and potential customers. It's important because it can be synonymous with consistent quality and service. It can also identify your products wherever potential customers happen to run across them. Using signature colors and motifs give the impression that attention to detail is important to you.

What are your signature colors? I can trace my love for mine all the way back to childhood, especially the green. In art class, I made a papier mache giraffe and painted it green with yellow spots. I also made a pottery bowl and painted the outside green and the inside yellow. Along the way, I became enraptured with fuchsia, the complimentary color of green.

If you haven't yet done so, try to identify the 2-3 colors that make you the most happy and begin to use them to consolidate and grow your business.

How To Start A New Design Project

Coffee, Cake, Creating on a rainy, thunderstorm day. Don't have the fat piece of cake, like the lady in the image and don't feel like taking out the box of chocolate cake mix either. I do have some chocolate chip pecan cookies.

Do you use a planner journal with all of those cute accessories? I don't but I sure need to. They are SO popular! I do have a creative notebook but a planner would help me get more done, I'm sure. It would be fun to use those stickers, paper clips, Washi tape and more.

I've decided to design a downloadable planner set for sale. It will be based on my printable artwork: "I Am Positive-Minded. I Attract Health, Wealth & Love." To help me get started, I ordered a pretty Heidi Swapp planner set to use as inspiration.

Find the Heidi Swapp planner kit that I ordered from HSN. There's even an HSN vid on how to use it: https://ishort.ink/YoZt

TAKEAWAYS:
  • Look around at what others are doing to get inspiration for new products.
  • Design something that you need and will use yourself. You can market it much better.
  • Use the products and kits of others to coordinate your own.
  • Give credit whenever someone else inspires you.

HAPPY CREATIVE TUESDAY!!!🖤⚡️🖤
